Sundae Drive - Week 16 / September 6

It is funny how things change over time. In the beginning it was all about the ice cream. It still is but now that we've been doing the dinner before ice cream for so many weeks in some ways dinner seems to be as, if not more, important in our weekly location decision.

This week we found an old fashion 50's style drive-in diner complete with car hop service, though we didn't take advantage of it and the car hops were NOT wearing roller skates. Dinner for 8 @ the Sycamore Drive-In in Bethel CT (http://www.sycamoredrivein.com/). Several of us had the Dagwood burger and everyone really enjoyed it. Sycamore was rated as the "best root beer" in Connecticut Magazine's Best of CT '09. My root beer float was great!



After a short zig zag trip through Bethel and Danbury we arrived at Il Bacio Ice Cream. I'd read about this place in the past and we found several great reviews of their ice cream, friendly staff and speedy service so we decided to give it a try after eliminating several other options in the area.

The ice cream was very good. I believe I heard Alyssa say it was the best ice cream we'd had so far this summer. They had tons of flavors to choose from and all looked great. A crowd appeared around the same time we did but the scoopers handled the rush well and we got our ice cream quickly.

I had a very hard time forcing myself to stick with a medium cup and limiting it to two flavors, cardiac arrest + chocolate lace. The cardiac arrest was a popular flavor with our group. It was chocolate ice cream with 7 different flavors of chocolate, including brownies. I hate to say it but it was TOO chocolaty for me. The staff seemed friendly, they had a wall full of pictures of customers and we asked how to get on the wall. Just stand there and let us take your picture was the response so we did..




BUT, i hate to say it, this place will not be revisited, I got yelled at by the owners for taking the picture of the ice cream flavors! details to follow.....

Update - I think i'll take the high road and not go into details but will say while i understand they might not want people taking pictures of the people working in the store they could have handled the situation much better than yelling at me and being rude. But i won't go back that's for sure.
