and I'm smiling!
Today was supposed to be the last day of my ski season. I'd never skied in April until last year and I really wanted to ski in May this year but it just didn't work out. Killington had been advertising May 2nd as their last day but abruptly ended the season last weekend (4/28) because the weather forecast didn't look good. I don't mean to rant but seriously, cancelling the season more than a week in advance based on a weather forecast is just lame. As it turned out they got snow rather than rain and could have stayed open but it wasn't to be.
Jay Peak on the VT/Canadian border is still open, they'd gotten 2 feet of snow this week. i gave serious consideration to driving 6 hours each way but in the end didn't do it. Even had an offer from a ski-buddy to stay over for free Friday night but that wasn't in the cards.
No complaints on the season. Skied 30 days, my goal for the year. Skied at 7 new mountains which was also something i wanted to do this year. Didn't expect 7 but am very happy i got to try so many new places. The trip we had to CO was awesome even though we only go 3 days of skiing rather than 4. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
I avoided serious injury though my left knee nagged all season. I hurt it before the season started, ironically doing exercises trying to strengthen my legs! thankfully it only hurts when i stand and didn't hurt when i skied (usually). probably going to see Ortho soon just to make sure it isn't something serious.
I think my skiing skills improved. Not that i'm great by any stretch of the imagination but always trying to push myself to do better, ski harder, ski faster, etc.
Kids had good seasons too. Meg, though a little timid on the slopes, made a big breakthrough on how she turns and Jake was skiing like a whole new person this year. Not sure what happened (maybe the new gear he got) but he's leaps and bounds ahead of where he ended last season.
As i look out the back window i see green grass, trees full of leaves, flowers blooming and hear the birds chirping. I think i can finally let go of the 09/10 ski season. The fact that my softball season has started helps too :-)
I LIKE YOUR QUOTE FROM DR. SUESS. A GREAT THOUGHT TO LIVE BY. IT IS ALWAYS NICE TO LEARN SOMETHING FROM YOUR SON. ALC
