We joked last week that after the long drive to the park in East Lyme we deserved to have a short ride this week to a park near us. Well, wish granted, this week's destination Indian Wells State Park in Shelton CT (our neighbor to the east). The park is 6 miles from our home and in the 14 years we've lived in Monroe I’ve probably driven past it hundreds of times but never visited it. The "park of the week" being so close was a blessing as it turned out to be a hectic day for everyone.
We packed a picnic lunch and headed to the park, arriving around 11:30. We checked in and took our obligatory pictures.
We walked around to see the activities they had to offer and, like last week, the girls weren't overly interested. There was one station where they got to make a "talking stick" with beads and feather
The park was very nice, a long beach on the shore of Lake Zoar, a large field for playing and a picnic area.
After lunch the girls got a treat of ice cream. and we finished up the activities with by conducting a weather experiment. The purpose of the experiment was supposed to teach how a forest affects weather but I think the girls just had fun running to the stations and recording the wind and temperature.
We ended the visit with a short hike to a water fall.
Like last week, the activities were a snooze but it was nice to finally get to see a park in our backyard and the waterfall hike was fun.
