Didn't think we'd get lucky two weeks in a row with a nearby park and was right, this week's GPP destination was back on the East side of CT at Devil's Hopyard State Park.
The bad news - we didn't make it there this weekend. Our partners in crime, the Carrolls, were off on a family camping trip with Jon's brother's family and parents and we had conflicts too. Jake had to work (umpire) Saturday afternoon, Amy needed to go to Stamford to see her Mom and I needed to go to Stamford as well to fix my Mom's computer.
The good news - this week's GPP event was a self-guided one and they encouraged participants to visit the park "any time between now and June 11th" so technically we're still doing OK. Perhaps with the holiday weekend coming up we can hit two sites and catch back up. Would have tried to go yesterday (Sunday) if the weather forecast was right but on Saturday they called for rain on Sunday so we didn't make plans. But in the end it turned out to be a decent day.
Despite not making going to the park we managed to keep busy all weekend. After running around on Saturday AM in Stamford we had to shuffle Jake between 2 games he was ump'ing. Of course the first game ran long so he was late for the second. I went over to the 2nd game and offered to ump in his place until he arrived but it worked out. The other ump took the plate and the coaches did the bases (i knew one of them from my softball team) until Jake got there. He only missed the 1st inning so it wasn't terrible. We picked up Jake after his last game and went out to dinner. When we got home we had a fire in the backyard, Megan made s'mores.
Sunday started with a trip to IHOP which had a 1 hour wait so we bailed and went to Friendly's. Meg loved the chocolate pancakes with chocolate chips AND chocolate ice cream. Jake had Cinnamon Bun French toast with vanilla ice cream...... why didn't we get ice cream with breakfast when we were kids???????????????? After breakfast we did a little car shopping. My mid-life crisis is winding down so we're dumping the BMW in favor of another SUV. Looking for a used GMC Acadia but not having much luck. Back home, did a little yard work and then Jake had another umpiring job at 6:00 PM. We dropped him off and went out to dinner again! We met up with the Carrolls (back from camping) at Archie Moores. Picked up Jake on the way home and proceeded to watch the LOST series finale.
not a bad weekend but i feel a little guilty about not getting to the park. i'll get over it though.
what are s'mores? gp
