Well, really a replacement toy. Friday night softball is what i call my "old man" league, it is for 35 and over. We play with wooden bats because at our old age we (supposedly) can't react fast enough in the infield or run/throw far enough in the outfield to handle the speed + distance of a ball coming off an aluminum. Last season i picked up a bamboo bat (http://www.bamboobat.com) which was really nice. If you read and believe the hype on the web site they claim the bamboo is harder than steel. all i know is the ball really jumps off the bat and with a good swing you can hit the ball pretty far. Used it all last season but broke it during the playoffs last year.
We've had one game already this season and while i hit fine with the "old fashion" maple bat in the first game i figured i'd pick up a replacement bamboo. Found a store in the next town over that sold them and picked one up for tonight's game.
i got demoted from leadoff this season (at least for the first game) so now i have more chances to drive runners in.. hopefully it works out.
oh, and the bamboo bats look very nice. I got the black/white one show above. i would have preferred something a little less flashy but the store only had the one style. The white is so hard to keep clean ;-)
Also picked up a new pair of cleats today
My old ones didn't fit well and really made running uncomfortable. new ones felt light as a feather and no pain!!
