Evoking the Tom Carvel Rule

Aug 7, 2010
If Tom could declare "Wednesday is Sundae at Carvel" then we can declare "Saturday is Sundae" as well.

With Meg and Alyssa heading to camp on Sunday we decided it would be best to have our ice cream adventure on Saturday because it would be too hectic otherwise.

We started the day with a little river adventure first.  We headed up to New Hartford CT and did a tube ride down the Farmington River.

You might not be able to tell in this pic but Megan was not thrilled with this ride.  It wasn’t until the rapids were over that she relaxed and had some fun.  Everyone else had a good time, though it was not a unanimous vote on trying this adventure again. 5-3 in favor, my wife and kids were the naysayers.

After we dried off and changed we went looking for some lunch.  Being in the neighborhood of our local ski hill, Ski Sundown, we were familiar with some of the options. Jon and I had passed by the Log House Restaurant countless times on the way skiing so we figured we’d give it a shot. It was a diner kind of place which worked out well as everybody found something they liked on the menu. The food was pretty good too.

Torrington was our next stop; we headed down to find an ice cream shop called “Peaches N Cream”.   We almost drove past the place and from the outside my first impression was they were closed.  But after seeing people in the parking lot eating ice cream we realized they were indeed open.   Expectations were low at this point.

A bit of a surprise inside. While I’m not quite old enough to know what a restaurant looked like in the 50’s, I imagined this was just like it. They had a good selection of ice cream and sorbet.  I ended up with Kailua Chip (Lorri did too).  The ice cream was excellent. Someone (can’t remember who) said it was the best ice cream so far this year.

  1. The yellow sign next to the town line sign tells me it is my kind of place, but not for ice cream. gp
